Roku rocks

We got one of the Roku players that allows you to watch the streaming stuff that is available on Netflix. I installed it about two weeks ago, but haven't used it much until the past couple of days. First, it was dead simple to get running. I have a nearby ethernet switch that I plugged it in to and a HDMI cable to the TV and voila. About 20 seconds of button presses and a visit to Netflix's web site and we were in business.

The kids have been watching a bunch of the Disney TV crap they have (Wizards of Waverly, iCarly, etc) and love it. I'm encouraging the Discovery channel shows and keep the queue full of Meercat Manor, Mythbusters, etc. Kelly and I have started catching up on TV series we'd hadn't paid attention to before. I like it even better than the Tivo, since there are no commercials! Tivo is cool because you can skip at 30 sec clicks, but this is even better!

Rumor has it that they are adding 10 new streaming providers before the end of the year and that they are releasing a SDK. Can't wait.

First post

I tried to make my first post using the Peek email gadget, but the thing is on the fritz now for about a week. Nice idea, but really poor backend execution. Polling interval is way too long and support has been MIA.

Network is t-mobile, which is one step up from pirate radio or leached 802.11b, but I can get a signal most of my commute and everywhere at work, so maybe it will be worth it. I hope they get their act together...I'm rooting for them.

Note: hey look - the post from the Peek finally showed up..only an hour late!
